Daphne Bukirwa was born and raised in Kampala Uganda, and moved to Utah in the summer of 2005. She is a dual major in Public Relations and Marketing, and a second major in Sociology and social work. She has been involved in various activities at Utah State University, and recently won the 2009 Robins award for Achievement of the year. She has participated in a number of projects to build awareness on campus about different issues affecting the African continent. She has worked with non- profit organizations like OXFAM America, and worked on campaigns such as the “Make Trade Fair campaign”. OXFAM America is a nonprofit organization dedicated to end injustice and poverty in developing countries. She was one of 50 students selected from all over the country, to attend the change initiative program. CHANGE Initiative exposes students to the international development issues that direct Oxfam's work. CHANGE Leaders use their skills and insight to run Oxfam campaigns on their campuses and in their local communities. She started the Human Rights and Fair-trade club on Campus, to direct some of OXFAM America’s campaigns such as “The Make Trade Fair Campaign.” She also worked as an OXFAM America Change Facilitator for the North- west region (summer 2008) and worked as a lead facilitator for the 2008-2009 change leaders in the North West region. She has had the opportunity to work as an undergraduate teaching Fellow for the Sociology Department; this helped her work closely with her professors, and her peers.

She is the founder and President of the National Society of Leadership and Success Chapter at Utah State University. She enjoys traveling, meeting new people, writing and running. She hopes to graduate in December 2009 and move on to Graduate school in the spring of 2010.
