Jason Collins

Accountant Liability Amidst the Wave of Insolvencies and Financial Frauds

Jason Collins, a commercial trial lawyer and former CPA, will provide attendees with insights into the major financial-statement frauds of the last few years, an assessment of the current litigation environment for accountants, and an overview of trends in accountant liability law. Jason maintains an active, high-profile docket of accounting malpractice cases. In addition to the topics listed above, Jason will provide attendees with his perspective on what accountants and accounting firms should be doing to limit their exposure and avoid becoming one of his targeted defendants.

Biography

Jason Collins is a partner at Diamond McCarthy LLP. Jason is a commercial trial lawyer and former Certified Public Accountant who handles all types of complex business litigation, with a special emphasis on financial fraud cases, insolvency disputes, professional liability matters, and cross-border financial litigation. Jason manages some of the most prominent financial fraud and insolvency cases in the United States and around the world. Jason has particular expertise in prosecuting claims against auditors and maintains an active docket of cases against Big Four and major regional accounting firms.

Prior to joining Diamond McCarthy, Jason was a structured finance transaction auditor and mergers-and-acquisitions specialist at Arthur Andersen LLP, where he was tasked with examining some of the world’s most sophisticated financial transactions. Jason is a member of the American Bar Association, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and the State Bar of Texas. Jason received his JD, with honors, from The University of Texas School of Law and was elected to the Order of the Coif upon graduation. He received his MS in Finance and BBA in Accounting from Texas A&M University, graduating summa cum laude and as a Mays Business School Fellow.
