Tag You're It: XBRL -What You Need to Know
Reuben Cook, Business Advisory Division Consultant and Business Intelligence Services Manager, Squire & Company, PC
Bryant Armstrong, CPA-CITP: Shareholder and Technology Division Leader, Squire & Company, PC
XBRL is a business reporting standard that improves the accessibility and comparability of financial information with the use of a controlled vocabulary (a taxonomy) and XBRL software. XBRL's tagging technology allows companies to electronically communicate their business and financial data to investors and other users of financial statements in an interactive data format. As the SEC has made XBRL reporting mandatory for public companies, the use of XBRL will potentially become the new language standard for electronic communication of business and financial data. In the future, it is likely that both public and privately held companies will be affected by XBRL and will need to understand how to use it.
Discover how XBRL will affect you as we discuss what XBRL is, what taxonomies are, how to map and tag a financial statement, and how to create instance documents. We'll also discuss the latest in available software to assist you in meeting your XBRL reporting requirements.
