Presentation Summary

He Who Fails to Learn from History Is Doomed to Relive It.

Businesses and individuals are feeling the impact of the current recession. The history of the US economy is one of expansion and recession. Not all expansions have been equal and not all recessions are alike. Understanding the ways in which this downturn is the same and different from previous ones may help us make better decisions for our businesses and our families. In this way we can prepare for upcoming challenges and avoid the pitfalls that the economy may send our way.

This presentation will explore the characteristics of past recessions, and then contrast them with our present situation. In this context we will then examine strategies both individuals and businesses may implement to successfully navigate the economic waves that are coming our way.

Objectives:
• Understand the nature of recessions.
• Compare previous recessions, the conditions surrounding each one and the economic behavior accompanying them.
• Discuss the likely outcomes of the current recession.
• Explore strategies that increase the likelihood of financial survival.
