Workshop Summary - "Lean IT: Sustaining Enterprise Transformation"

Information systems are vital to survive and thrive in today’s global economy, and the effective use of information assets is essential for a sustained continuous improvement program. However IT can also be the source of tremendous waste, cost, risk and business disruption.

In this half-day workshop, you will learn to apply common Lean tools and methods to improve the performance of IT operations and projects:

  • How an IT organization can support the continuous improvement of business processes in operations, administration and management.
  • How Lean can improve IT performance, including the delivery of services to internal and external customers, effective enterprise software implementation and software development projects.
  • How to transform challenging economic conditions into strategic opportunity, delivering more productivity and quality from existing resources. This can be achieved not through cutting costs and headcount, but by seizing the moment - investing in people, processes, systems and capabilities for the future.

Biography

Steady Improvement is a Lean IT consulting practice focusing on business process improvement, change management and IT strategy. We emphasize the development of people, the continuous improvement of business processes, and the thoughtful application of information technology – in that order. Our experience includes the application of Lean IT tools and principles within many industries including health care, financial services, software development, and non-profit organizations, in addition to traditional manufacturing, supply chain and logistics operations.

We are currently writing our next book on Lean IT, to be published by Productivity Press in early 2010. We are searching for case studies where companies have successfully applied Lean and Six Sigma tools and principles to IT activities.
